I’ve grown up in the church where the main focus/budget has been the weekend experience.

I think for a while, in the late 90’s and early 2000’s this was a HUGE reason that the church was growing.
It was necessary in that decade and for that generation.
But the kids who went to the big kids productions have now grown into young adults.
They aren’t easily impressed with the glitz and glam of moving lights and amazing cover songs because in this day and age they can see the real band playing that song live on their phones and the big show is almost underwhelming.
I believe that the timeframe for the big weekend production is closing sooner than later.
Why?
Because we now live in a society where EVERYTHING IS HUGE. EVERYTHING IS OVER THE TOP. EVERYTHING IS BIGGER AND BETTER THAN THE WEEK BEFORE.
And it’s exhausting.
I think that where BIGGER AND BRIGHTER was what renewed people on a week to week basis 10 years ago, NOW IT ACTUALLY EXHAUSTS PEOPLE.
It’s not the fault of the church.
CURRENT CULTURE HAS JUST EXHAUSTED US.
And we can continue just doing what has worked and is working with our heads to the ground…
OR…
We can look up and see what the world is screaming for without even knowing they are screaming yet.
Simplicity in their already over produced world.
Thoughts?
